In the world of Medicare, timing is everything. Unlike most insurance where you can apply anytime, Medicare has strict "windows." Understanding these periods ensures you aren't stuck in a plan that no longer fits your needs or your budget.

Special Election Periods:
When Can You Make a Change?

Annual Enrollment (AEP)

The Annual Review

Dates: Oct 15 – Dec 7

This is the most important window. It is your yearly opportunity to switch Advantage plans or Drug plans for the upcoming year. Changes take effect January 1st.

Advantage Open Enrollment (OEP)

The "Second Chance"

Dates: Jan 1 – March 31

If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan and realize it’s not the right fit, you have one chance to switch to a different Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.

Special Enrollment (SEP)

Life Happens

Dates: Varies by Event

These windows open due to specific life events, such as moving to a new area, losing employer coverage, or qualifying for "Extra Help" with prescription costs.

New to Town? Welcome!

If you recently moved to Mohave County from another state or even a different Arizona county, your current plan’s network may no longer serve you. You generally have a 2-month window to choose a new plan that fits your new home. Don't wait! If you miss this window, you could be stuck with out-of-network costs.

Don't assume that your current insurance will cover you. While it might work temporarily any gap or denial in coverage won't be discovered until it is too late. Insurance policies cannot be backdated, so a lapse in proper coverage can be devastating!
